Firstly, steel wire rope may twist due to its inherent properties. As steel wire rope is manufactured by twisting several strands of wires together, it naturally tends to coil up when unloaded. This coiling-up tendency is called "lay," and it is essential to the wire rope's structure and strength. However, if the lay is too tight or too loose, it can cause the wire rope to twist, which can lead to decreased strength and potential accidents.
